A Brief Study of Angels

Fallen Angels

We will follow the same method as before with our study of the holy angels by asking pertinent questions to investigate another group of spirit beings which are commonly referred to as demons. While we may be introduced to some interesting and speculative material along the way, we must remember that our only sure source for knowledge about the supernatural things of creation that cannot be seen is the Bible. Our final conclusions must be based on sound scriptural statements and principles. Other ideas about these matters which cannot be substantiated by the Word of God cannot and should not be held dogmatically.

One more word about our reasons and motives for this study before we delve into a much more negative portion of it. We are looking at these matters for the simple reason that we should have a balanced and informed perspective. Christians should know what the Bible says about fallen angels (including Satan) so that we can reject the mania and myths that are prevalent in society around us. We want to be a solid source of knowledge and be able to refute erroneous views when opportunity arises. Also we should understand the power of such beings so that we don’t underestimate their capabilities and thus be at an disadvantage. Further, we want to know their limitations so that we do not exaggerate their abilities and thus become paralyzed by fear of them. But in no case do we want to provoke an unhealthy curiosity about these evil beings and their ways. Some have been led down the path of destruction by developing an extreme interest in the unseen and supernatural. God commands that we avoid and combat the things of darkness. We do not want to become overly fascinated by this subject matter but only more knowledgeable of the enemy so that we might be more effective in the service of the Lord and His kingdom of light.
